Personal Information

Rainer Hegselmann, born in 1950, studied philosophy, sociology, and political sciences at Ruhr–Universität Bochum. In 1977 he took his PhD from Essen University. 1983 he got his habilitation at Karlsruhe University (now Karlsruhe Institute of Technology). In the years 1986-1988 Rainer Hegselmann was a Heisenberg-Scholar of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). In 1988 he got a professorship for practical philosophy at Bremen University. In 1996 Rainer Hegselmann accepted a chair of philosophy at Bayreuth University. There he designed and developed the BA- and MA-course program Philosophy & Economics that later inspired many other degree programs in Germany and abroad. From 2010 to 2016 he was the director of the Bayreuth Research Centre for Modelling and Simulation of Socio-Economic Phenomena (MODUS). He hold guest professorships and fellowships at several universities and advanced-study institutions. After his retirement at Bayreuth University, Rainer Hegselmann is now professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. He continues to be a member of MODUS.
